My Project and Thesis

Welcome to my umwblog page for Hist 360.

My topic is the relationship between monarchical authority and the king’s favorite. Through letters, portraits, and court documents I will show that the validos (king’s favorite) and the Spanish kings had a symbiotic relation that gave enormous power to the validos, and with this power the validos did everything they could to support and bolster the authority of the Spanish monarchy in Spain and abroad. This project will focus on the validos that held power during the 16th and 17th centuries.
